Canonical construction of invariant differential operators

This is review. I first recall the procedure for the construction of invariant differential operators. We work in most developed situation - real semisimple Lie groups. Then we give the classification of the invariant differential operators for the classical real semisimple Lie groups and also for many exceptional cases.
